Alzheimer's Association
I was 24 when my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at 79, and became his primary caregiver for the next 8 years. When he died, the Alzheimer's Association helped me channel my range and grief into advocacy. I served as a VP on the Junior Board, a Chair on the Walk to End Alzheimer's Committee, lobbied in DC & Springfield for government support & funding, and have written and spoken extensively about my experience. Currently I volunteer with the Advocacy Program, serving as an Ambassador to Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and lobbying to pass critical legislation and significantly increased federal research funding.
Chicago HOPES For Kids
This invaluable organization provides support for Chicago students and families experiencing homelessness. Through trauma- informed academic guidance and dedicated mentorship, they instill educational development, spark curiosity, and lay the groundwork for long-term empowerment. I volunteer weekly in their Literacy Leaders program at a Rogers Park shelter, and am constantly in awe of the dynamic and lasting impact their work has on the kids. In 2023 I was honored to be named Volunteer of the Year at their Seeds of Hope gala.
Evanston Community Fridges
Evanston Community Fridges is a mutual aid network rooted in collective community care through access to free food. There are currently four fridges in Evanston where anyone can leave food and anyone can take food, anytime. The core group of fridge organizers are people from the Evanston community who work behind the scenes to organize hosts, fridge donations, and outreach. I serve on the team as co-manager of the Sunrise Fridge, located at Reba Church.
